The race starts on the corner of 2nd & B streets, approximately 6 blocks (2 south, 4 west) from the Eastern Oregon University Campus, to the top of Morgan Lake Road. It is a challenging uphill, with a distance of roughly 2.35 miles.

Garry Killgore, founder and president of AQx, has been invited to come to La Grande and give a presentation on his unique aqua-based training for running and fitness development.

"AQx is a training system designed to help individuals recover from injuries, prevent the likelihood of injuries, increase strength, power, dynamic loading, flexibility, coordination, and endurance in low-impact or zero-gravity aquatic environments." (www.aqxsports.com)

A public demonstration will be held at Veterans Memorial Pool in La Grande:

Cost = $15, products will be offered at a discount for those that attend

More details:
On May 20-21 the Physical Activity and Health program at Eastern Oregon University will be sponsoring a workshop and clinic presented by AQX Sports at Veterans Memorial pool in La Grande. On Friday evening, May 20, from 5:30 to 7:00 community participants will have the opportunity to try out the AQx Aquatic Training Shoes, the AQx Zero-Gravity Buoyancy Suit and purchase all AQx products at reduced prices! This is a great way to become familiar with the AQx program and find out how AQx can benefit you! The AQX system was developed as an aquatic training, conditioning, and rehabilitation program using innovative techniques and products. The presenter, Dr. Garry Kilgore, is a Professor at Linfield College and the developer of the AQX system. The demonstration will require a $15 fee and participants should be prepared to be in the water.

In addition, there is a trainer’s clinic on Saturday, May 21, from 8-2 for those desiring to become a certified AQX instructor. "Hour of Faith" Ride

Bring your road bike and your courage. This ride is for (somewhat) experienced riders.
The agenda

  • Roll out from La Grande Ride Headquarters on Albany St. at 6:30 am.
  • Roll south down 21st St and then past Bi-mart on 20th.
  • Cross Gekeler and hit the short climb up the cemetery full throttle (big chainring only).
  • Cruise down the hill and roll west on Gekeler.
  • Turn left on 12th St and full throttle to the top of the pavement
  • Cruise down and turn left on Gekeler, then right on 2nd street and roll easy for a while.
  • After the stop sign at X St, open up in a paceline all the way through Blackhawk Trail Lane.
  • Left turn on Spruce St. and roll for a few hundred yards. Open up the paceline again at the creek crossing bridge and maintain max speed until Hunter.
  • Roll easy south on Hunter through Island City.
  • Right turn on Cove Ave., and open up the paceline again, right turn on Walton Road, Left turn onto Mulholland (careful!) and the open into a sprint that finishes at the end of the fence.
  • Roll easy back to the shop for a tea break.

Join in anywhere on the route. This style of riding will ramp up your aerobic capacity and prepare you for races. There will be several re-groupings along the way so a wide range of fitness levels can participate...and you can always head back to the shop at any point to enjoy apres-ride.

Course Info:
The swim will take place in the Olympic-size pool at the Pendleton Family Aquatic Center.
The bike will be an out-and-back course on Highway 37 north of Pendleton.
The run will take you on an out-and-back course along the Umatilla River bikepath.
