The La Grande Weather Service, Inc. (LGDWS) is setting up a base of operation at La Grande Ride Headquarters. This local partnership will provide a La Grande area recreation-related weather forecast and data on current conditions. The new "LaGrandeRide.com Weather Forecast" will be an exclusive forecast presented at www.LaGrandeRide.com along with other planned weather features. Watch for this forecast to be active soon on the site.
Currently LGDWS is providing weather forecasting for Anthony Lakes Ski Area. Meteorologist in Charge Tesmond Hurd was instrumental in placing a new weather station on the ski patrol station near the top of the chairlift with the help of Wallowa Avalanche Center. This has filled a much needed void in weather information for skiers, snowboarders, and winter enthusiasts.
Weather information is very important to the mission of La Grande Ride to promote fitness, recreation, and sport performance. "Weather is a primary concern for recreation in La Grande," says Brian Sather of La Grande Ride. "Unfortunately, we're literally off the radar in La Grande and the computer automated forecasting services often gets our local weather wrong. LGDWS will give us a weatherman on the ground, to give us the information we need for being prepared when we all head out to play."
The La Grande Ride Hours of Operation calendar will indicate times and days LGDWS will be open for business at Headquarters on Albany Street in La Grande.
